What many do not realize is that there is a huge difference between what your inventory looks like and what it does. By using lean inventory management techniques you can achieve a much higher level of accuracy in your inventory.
As far as I know there is no such thing as a “lazy-stock” inventory management technique. Rather, it is a new way of managing your inventory. Each of the three major levels of self-aware inventory management have evolved from the time of the dinosaurs to a point where it’s almost impossible for anyone to get a handle on their inventory.
The idea is to use the best of your knowledge of what you have and the best of what you need to know about your inventory to be able to make rational decisions. The old inventory management techniques were based on the idea of “stocking up”; meaning that you wanted to know exactly what you had so you could use it to make a decision.
This is one of those things that can benefit from a little bit of self-awareness, because the more you know and the more you know how to use the information you have, the better you will be at making decisions. When you don’t know what you have, you really tend to make poor decisions.
You’ll often hear people talking about “lean” inventory management. In lean, the goal is to minimize the amount of inventory by removing everything unnecessary. A good inventory management system will make it easy for you to find what you need without really taking the time to look for it. If you have a good inventory management system (which is extremely important if you’re running a website), you can expect your website to sell better.
Your website can sell better and your inventory is likely to be less. You won’t have to look for stuff you don’t have. If you have a good inventory management system and you have the time to devote to it, you can expect your website to sell better.
To be honest, I feel like lean inventory management is a bit of an oxymoron. I mean, sure, if you are doing your own website, you could probably do it. But if you are using a website, I mean a website for your company, I think it has to be lean. You can’t expect to sell the same thing online that you sell in your store.
I’ve been trying to get lean inventory management into our website for a while now and I’m still not sure we’ve hit the mark. Here’s the thing though: I have a couple of clients who use lean inventory management and they have no complaints. They are very satisfied. To be honest, this makes me wonder if lean inventory management is a real thing.
While I was writing this, I noticed a new site I’d love to see change. I was going to write a little something about how to improve it, but I forgot. I want to get lean inventory management into my website, so it should be pretty simple.
I have seen a lot of great lean inventory management implementations, but I have not yet seen a lean inventory management implementation that is as well-designed, easy to use, and useful.
