I get asked about ad-hoc requests all the time. This issue is something that I often get asked about, because I make it a point to always answer the question, no matter how unhelpful it is. I know that most people are good at asking the “right” questions, but they just don’t quite know what they’re asking. Therefore, I always make a point to explain how to ask the right question.
A good ad-hoc request is one that is specific, meaningful, and allows for a good response. I really wouldn’t recommend asking me about ad-hoc requests unless you were certain that they were what you wanted. There are many ways to ask me about ad-hoc requests. I tend to answer as many of them as I possibly can.
I have a few ad-hoc requests that I answer with my usual, “no”. I have a few others that I do ask about, but they are usually pretty off-topic. I have a few more that I ask about that I just never get the chance to ask.
Some of you asked me about ad-hoc requests, and I don’t know if you got a good response to them, but here are some of the ones I usually answer.
As you can probably guess, I don’t want to answer every ad-hoc request. Some of them are pretty silly, but most of them are pretty awesome. I am not in the habit of answering every ad-hoc request I get, but I do like to answer some pretty awesome ad-hoc requests.
Ad-hoc requests are pretty standard in the industry, and you can ask for anything you want. If you don’t want me to respond to an ad-hoc request, I will usually tell you why I don’t. You can ask for anything you want, and if I don’t know, I’ll tell you why I don’t.
ad-hoc requests are something I do a lot. Like, a lot. One of my most popular ad-hoc requests, and one I have a lot of, is a request I made to the dev team a while ago. At the time, we were developing a game that was going to be a free-to-play game. The game would have a lot of gameplay that was pretty much impossible, but it would also include an unlockable “experience mode.
The request was to add a “loot box.” That’s a game mode where you can get stuff like loot crates, currency, weapons, and other goodies that would be available when you complete your main quest line in a specific level. A lot of people thought it was a bad idea because it wasn’t something you could just go and get. We ended up going to the dev team and asking why they didnt think that was a good idea.
The response was that the player would be able to get that loot box any time they completed a quest. They didn’t want to add one because it would take away the ability to do certain other things. But it does give us a way to get stuff that would otherwise be impossible.
