The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them. Whereas a person without self-awareness just hits the bottle and doesn’t look back.
Our autopilot problem, which is the problem we have with our habits, routines, impulses and reactions, comes down to our ability to control those habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. In other words, the lack of self-awareness. If we have no control over the habits, routines, impulses, and reactions we’re doing, then we can’t control them.
The other two steps are the ability to do the right thing, but they can’t really be the right thing. The reason we can control the habits, routines, impulses and reactions is because we can control our own behaviour too. This is the reason I think there is a lot of confusion on this one. If we have no control over the habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we cant control ourselves.
I think the first one is the easiest. If you have no control over the habits, routines, impulses and reactions then you cant really control yourself. The reason you would have this condition is because of the way your brain works. It’s almost like a thought-transformer where you can think of something and it’ll turn into a behavior. It’s like a muscle that you can control. But the habit itself is the most difficult part of the equation.
As a financial manager, you most likely have the power to influence your own personal habits, routines, impulses and reactions. In order to make changes, you may have to put your foot down and be prepared to follow through. If you don’t follow through, it wont mean anything. The second action is the most difficult. If you dont follow through then it wont change anything. The reason you would have this condition is because of your mental self.
We can think of a few conditions that will make change hard, but in the end this is the one action that most financial managers cannt handle. That is, when you are not mentally prepared to follow through. If you have the ability to influence your own mental state, it will be easier to force your own habits, routines and impulses to change than if you would have to start by giving your own personal habits, routines and impulses to change.
This is an example of the kind of situation that will affect your mental state: when you are not mentally prepared to follow through on your actions, when you think you are going to make an error or do something stupid, you may think this might be okay because you can go and do it anyway. But it is not. You can’t go and do it anyway. So you wont be able to change your ways to make them a success.
This is an example of where one of the most important changes in your life will be to stop being so willing to do things that are wrong. Because if you think you can go from one action to the next, even if you make a mistake, you can go and do it anyway. This attitude will not bring you to success. So you will not be able to change the way you think.
